Nets Up and Thai Taffeta Support Marine Materials for the Prototype of Chelo-Bed: Surgical Bed for Chelonian Surgery

Bangkok, 29 August 2024 - Nets Up project in collaboration with Thai Taffeta Co., Ltd., has provided Marine Materials to a group of students led by Ms. Chulita Namte and Ms. Kanokporn Suwanpayak, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Supamard Sujatanond from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, and Mr. Benchapol Lorsunyaluck, DVM, Dip Cons.Med. These materials were used to produce the prototype of Chelo-Bed, a surgical bed for chelonian surgery, which won a silver medal at Thailand Research Expo 2024 in the university innovation category.
This turtle surgery prototype bed is designed to position turtles at the optimal angle during surgery. The Marine Materials cloths supplied by the Nets Up project, used in the bed, are strong and durable, capable of supporting the weight and body shape of turtles. This innovation not only facilitates medical procedures but also reduces the risk of injury, preventing the compression of turtles' lungs during surgery. It exemplifies the upcycling of marine waste into a valuable resource that contributes to the care and conservation of sea turtles, which are crucial to the marine ecosystem.
